Kelburn Garden Party 2018
FRIDAY 29TH JUNE 2018
The Kelburn Garden Party is an unique, independent, magical music and arts festival – an annual explosion of colour, creativity and culture in a spectacular setting on Scotland’s West Coast – the grounds and glen around a 13th century painted castle, established in 2009 and with a dedicated following. The festival is renowned for featuring a high quality and diverse range of musical styles that sits alongside a feast of creative happenings and fun attractions embedded around the site, from interactive art installations, living theatre, pop-up parties to glen walks, waterfall plunge pools, poetry, workshops, cabaret and downright surreal happenings. Kelburn is family-friendly and is well loved by all kids who visit as a fairytale playground. Under the madcap vision and leadership of director Dave Boyle, the festival is created each year by the dedicated efforts of the organisers, crew, volunteers, performers and of course you, our friendly campers and dancers. Below you can find out what need to know about a trip to the fairytale lands of the Kelburn Garden Party.
It’s with immense excitement that we give you the first wave of acts performing at The Kelburn Garden Party 2018. As always your ears and feet will be treated to a wide range of quality sounds for party people. There will be funk, folk, reggae and jazz. House, techno, hip-hop, disco and world music. And lots of surprises! The big news this year is that we are upgrading and expanding one of our dance arenas, The Landing, to create a brand new high-end audio electronic music experience. To celebrate this fact we’re recruiting some big names to play there, including UK underground legend and goldfather of jungle Goldie, alongside Chali 2na & Krafty Kuts, The 2 Bears and Auntie Flo, among others. We’re pretty damn hyped for this!
They are joined on the line-up by some really great talent: Ibibio Sound Machine finally get to blast their infectious afro-funk at Kelburn, Macka B brings his legendary “voice of reggae”, Europe’s #1 tastemaker DJs Dekmantel Soundsystem debut, O.G. DMC chap and Scratch Pervert Mr Thing rolls into town, Chinese Man vocalist Taiwan MC flies in from Paris, and the mighty globetrotting folk supergroup The Turbans make up just a few of this year’s programme. For more acts and their profiles, see below. We are also blessed this year with some great stage takeovers, with The Skinny, Electrikal, Highlife Records, First Word and Uganda’s Nyege Nyege Festival all helping curate this year’s festival.
There are many many more acts to be announced soon, performing across 7 stages set in unrivalled natural beauty around Kelburn’s fairytale site, alongside site-specific artworks in the Neverending Glen, pop-up performances, circus shows, late-night cabaret and physical theatre that are as much a key to the event as the main musical programme. Tickets are selling well faster than last year, and with capacity only rising a little bit this year, well, you know what to do… buy your tickets soon!
Here’s the line-up so far. Many more to be announced later!
