“…as close to the sound of the great Stephane Grappelli as I think you’re going to hear in Scotland” The Jazz House, BBC Radio Scotland
Sharing a love of Swing music and the style of the great Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, Rose Room will charm and entertain you with their vigorous and vivacious performances of ‘Hot Club’ and 1930s Jazz standards with a dash of Western Swing thrown in for good measure.
Nominated for ‘Ensemble of the Year’ at the Scottish Jazz Awards 2013 and with two albums under their belts, Rose Room have performed at numerous festivals, jazz and folk clubs across Scotland, Ireland and the North of England.
“The gypsy swing jazz of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli is their stock in trade and they manage the feat of making music that’s essentially rooted in the 1930s sound both fresh and true to its origins. Much of the credit for this must go to their three main strengths: the dynamic violin playing and clear, natural singing of Seonaid Aitken and the incisive, inventive guitar solos of Tom Watson, although they also have a strong, no-nonsense engine room in rhythm guitarist Tam Gallagher and double bassist, and guitar maker of this parish, Jimmy Moon. From opening number Exactly Like You, with its vigorous, catchy intro, Aitken was a vivacious presence.” The Herald
