Day of the Dead Glesga

The spirit of Mexico’s famous Dia De Los Muertos - The Day of the Dead festival - descends on Glasgow's West End transforming SWG3’s Poetry Club into a fiery fiesta.
Bursting with live music, dance performers, face-painters, Latin tunes, lashings of tequila, and a playful twist on traditional rituals, the night promises an alternative party hotter than a jalapeño pepper this Halloween weekend.
Rapdio Mariachi, Scotland’s best loved sombrero-topped four-piece will take to the stage to perform their unique twist on the mariachi tradition. Glasgow’s Femme Fatale dancers, who have recently wowed crows at T in the Park as well as hosting their regular Burlesque Banquet nights around the city, will bring their kitsch, sultry take on Mexican folk dance to the fiesta. Transporting the party to Mexico City and beyond, will be Subcity Radio DJs, and Glasgow indie floor fillers, Canções do sol and Tigerbeat, who’ll bring their exotic mix of Latin, Central and South American sounds to the dancefloor. Recreating the carnivalesque sprit of the festival, facepainters will be on hand to metamorphosize party-goers into calavera skulls, universally associated with the festival.

Day of the Dead Glesga will take place on Saturday the 2nd of November, coinciding with the annual celebration which takes place throughout Mexico on the 1st and 2nd of November. Adopting an optimistic outlook on death and fate, the festival is a colourful celebration of the life cycle and continues to fascinate and capture the imagination of millions around the globe.
Saturday the 2nd of November will see the colour, spirit and essence of the festival embody SWG3’s Poetry Club for a night of celebration.
