The Nightingales

Over 18 Only

“There are drum and guitar bands and then there is the Nightingales, dwarfing the rest, unmatched and utterly underrated in both musical originality and stylistic innovation.”

The Nightingales were formed by a few members of The Prefects – Birmingham’s original punk group - following that band’s demise in 1979.
Described in Death To Trad Rock - John Robb’s definitive book on post punk - as “The misfits’ misfits”, the Nightingale’s fluctuating line up – always based around lyricist/singer Robert Lloyd has coalesced around Lloyd, Andreas Schmid from Faust on bass, ex Violet Violet drummer Fliss Kitson and on guitar James Smith, who Lloyd had spotted playing with Damo Suzuki.
The band’s latest releases for Tiny Global Productions, include a 7” 45 collaboration with the great Vic Godard in May 2018 – “Commercial Suicide Man”, and a new album “Perish The Thought”, will released to coincide with this extensive UK/Euro tour.
Support from the Near Jazz Experience, featuring multi-instrumentalist Terry Edwards (Gallon Drunk, The Higsons), bassist Mark Bedford (Madness) and drummer Simon Charterton (The Higsons).
Also featuring Mr Twonkey, winner of the 2016 Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality.
