ROCKER ROD TO RAISE ROOF AT £125 MILLION HYDRO ARENA
ROD STEWART ANNOUNCED TO OPEN SCOTLAND’S NEW VENUE AS ALBUM ‘TIME’ TOPS THE CHARTS
First No.1 Album Since 1979
34 years since his last No.1 album, Scottish rocker Rod Stewart has taken the top spot with his highly-acclaimed LP ‘Time’ – making this his 15th No.1 record. And to meet demand to hear the album live, he will play a 5 date UK arena tour beginning this September.
As part of the tour, Rod will play the ultimate homecoming gig. The global superstar will open Glasgow’s £125 million arena The Hydro this September as part of his Time Tour. Rod will cap his most exciting tour in over two decades underneath The Hydro’s silver dome on the 30th September 2013.
Rod commented: "I have been looking forward to this as I’ve watched The Hydro take shape. 2013 is a momentous year for me. I cannot wait to get back to Scotland and perform in front of a live audience at this spectacular venue.”
After waiting 20 years for a brand new Rod Stewart song, eleven come along at once. ‘Time’, his first album of original material in two decades, has prompted The Sunday Times Culture to proclaim “he has certainly re-discovered himself as a songwriter”.
Rod Stewart says: “Well, knock me down with a feather. Just goes to show there’s still plenty of songs left in the old violin. Thank you.”
Rod's 'Greatest Hits Vol.1' went to No.1 back in 1979, but his last No.1 studio album was with 'A Night On The Town' in 1976 – 37 years ago. This new LP marks his long-awaited return to his songwriting roots with 12 inimitable tracks, 11 of which he wrote and produced.
A lot has happened for Rod since then as well. A two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a Grammy Living Legend, he has notched up 15 No.1 singles & LPs, 28 studio albums and an estimated 150 million in album sales worldwide. He was bestowed the prestigious CBE in 2007 and last year released his best-selling autobiography, Rod.
Scotland’s biggest rock export Rod Stewart is the perfect opening act for "The Hydro", Scotland’s new home of live entertainment. Built on the site of the former Queens’s Dock with a seating capacity of 12,000 and an audience of 1 million visitors each year, The Hydro aims to be one of the top 5 busiest indoor music arenas in the world alongside such iconic venues as Madison Square Gardens and The O2.
